Background and Objectives: Generative artificial intelligence can support personalized learning through dynamic content generation and intelligent feedback. Gamification can enhance learner motivation and engagement. this study was conducted with the aim of identifying the dimensions and components of integrating generative artificial intelligence and gamification in learning ecosystems.
Methods: The review followed PRISMA. A structured search was conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, and Springer in April 2025 and updated in May 2025 using terms related to generative AI, gamification, and learning ecosystems. After duplicate removal and title/abstract and full-text screening against predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 14 studies were retained for analysis. Data were extracted into a structured spreadsheet and the included evidence was organized through narrative aggregation across learning ecosystem types and recurring themes.
Findings: The synergy between generative artificial intelligence and gamification rests on six core dimensions: personalization of learning pathways; enhanced interaction and learner engagement; strengthened motivation and sustained participation; improved learning experience; intelligent and timely feedback; and reduced instructional design workload. These dimensions have been reported across diverse learning ecosystems, and their effectiveness is contingent upon the purposeful integration of technology within instructional design. Nevertheless, recurring challenges include ensuring the quality of generated outputs, the risk of superficial or contextually misaligned content, and the continued necessity of pedagogical oversight.
Conclusion: Integrating generative artificial intelligence and gamification shows promise for improving learning experiences, but its effectiveness depends on evidence-informed instructional design and clear quality assurance and ethical frameworks.
